My WAHM Life Story

When I was pregnant with Reaghan I was serving as a campus missionary with Cru. I knew that I didn’t want to walk around campus with a newborn, but I also knew that I wanted to give my time and gifts to work in some capacity. I had dabbled in coaching people to be full time missionaries, and this was fun for me! So I happily let go of “working outside the home” and traded it for a “work from nap time” life. And it was great! I loved being able to pour into people and coach women via phone calls, webinars, and email, while adjusting to life as a new mom (I had a pretty rough transition!)

As Reaghan got a little bit older I started sensing a desire to be more creative in my work, to create an online based business, and to start sharing my heart for food and hospitality with others! I took a big leap and left my guaranteed paycheck to stay home and see where an online business might go!

Fast forward again to a couple years ago when up ahead of us was a big move. I knew we were moving to a more expensive state, and that a solid income would bless our family in countless ways. I loved the products of Beautycounter myself and how it made my skin look and feel, and really wanted a discount on them. I also knew that I would naturally share this new love with friends and hey, maybe some of them would want to support me in it? So I gave it a go. I didn’t have much time to give to it, but decided to give it a chance.

I’ve been processing a lot lately how grateful I am to have this job. It allows me to share the meal and hospitality related content that I am so passionate about without feeling the need to sell X number of meal planners in order to “keep the lights on” in my business. If you blog or own a small business, you know this struggle. Website maintenance, branding, photography, shipping and packaging needs, email marketing, and so much more, cost small business owners like me hundreds of dollars a month. My initial goal with Beautycounter was to pay the business bills each month to lessen the stress of running my business. Since then, my Beautycounter commission has done that + paid for our Classical Conversations tuition, has helped us pay down debt more quickly, and provided for out of pocket medical needs. In a word it makes work so much more: relaxed. The work is flexible, not optional, but so simple and exactly what I need in this stage of life as a mom.

Maybe you’re missing that adult conversation? Or the enjoyment of serving others and knowing you’re making a big social impact while also raising a family and contributing a meaningful income? I LOVE the fact that while my kiddos play independently and when they are in their “quiet time” listening to an audio book, I can spend a couple hours a day working on a business that serves others by putting safe products into their homes, and simultaneously gives me a chance to love on women, and provides an income for our family. Some mamas just want to make enough to pay for the products they want. Others love our advocacy efforts. While others love to be able to go on that extra date night, or fix the home repairs or pay for a kids dance class without the added financial stress. Whatever the reason, there’s room at the table for you and I for one would love to link arms and do this working mama thing together.
