With the holidays coming up, we are all making plans to be on the road. We are super fortunate to have both sides of our family in the area, but I know many of you have to travel by car and plane for great distances to see family over the holidays!
Whenever we travel, I always need a snack. I know my body and sugar just makes me feel sluggish and cranky, so I opt for fresh veggies if we can bring a cooler, or something full of protein. I tend to get crankier the longer we stay in a car, and staying hydrated and having convenient snacks on hand honestly help so much with that. Any mom knows that snacks is kind of a road trip savior as well for babies + toddlers. I wouldn't suggest giving them this trail mix though! Choking hazard and all... but simple things like squeeze pouches, crackers, cooked beans that have been cooled, and fruit are all great options!
I love that we have a big batch of this trail mix in our pantry ready to go for the holidays but also anytime, as this pregnant mama seems to always need a healthy transportable snack for errands or long trips outside of the house.
Trail mix is so fun because you can really get creative with all the different combinations. This version screams fall to me with the pumpkin seeds and dried apples, but go ahead and play around with other variations by adding some yogurt covered fruit, dried pineapple or pear, and different kinds of nuts. I always need a little sweet to counteract the salty/savory of the nuts, so I always add some mini chocolate chips to any trail mix recipe.
